The Nanotechnology Graduate Awards Program is intended to identify and attract the best of the best graduate students available, and provide these students with the financial resources needed to pursue innovative research projects in high-risk, interdisciplinary areas involving new collaborations in the forefront of nanoscale science and engineering. The Center for Nanotechnology's goal is to furnish students with a superb education to qualify them to assume leadership positions in academia and in industrial research and development that reaches into nanotechnology. Our intention is to provide seed funding for proof-of-principle experiments and theoretical approaches in areas where traditional funding would otherwise be difficult to obtain. Proof-of-principle results should greatly enhance the likelihood of external funding for project continuation.

Graduate Awards in Nanotechnology are typically awarded for a 12-month period starting June 16, but for 2008-09 one quarter research awards are also available. Graduate students from all participating departments are eligible if they are beyond their first full year in graduate school on the award starting date. Applications are accepted beginning the second week of April. Deadline date will be announced once the Call for Applications is active, but is generally about the second Monday in May. Current awardees must reapply if they wish continued funding after June 15. Successful applicants will receive notification of the award no later than the start of June.

The official Call for Applications announcement will be issued after the beginning of Spring Quarter each year.
