AchievementsIGERT Program Achievements IGERT Trainees IGERT Faculty Education Research Nanotechnology Community The CNT brings together fifty-seven faculty members, among which seventeen members have been hired since 1997, from ten participating departments. Each faculty has a strong identity, adequate funding, excellent resources (often shared across thrusts), and a wealth of detailed problems for research exploration. Working together, the “scientific” and “engineering” societies have formulated a synergetic team with a commitment to addressing the three significant research areas as follows: Materials That Surround Us; Devices That Serve Us; Knowledge That Heals Us. Faculty members have research interests and expertise beyond the above three thrust areas. Their scope and depth of knowledge, expertise, and interests contribute to our IGERT program tremendously. Many papers have been published in peer-reviewed, prestigious journals in the field of nanotechnology and some research activities have been highlighted in national newspapers and magazines. With the involvement of our faculty, we attracted two center grants to the UW: (1) Microscale Life Sciences Center (MLSC) – an NIH Center for Excellence in Genome Sciences, in 2001; and (2) the Center on Materials and Devices for Information Technology Research (MDITR) – an NSF Science and Technology Center, in 2002.
