The NSF-IGERT Program in Nanotechnology has fostered profound changes to the educational landscape at the UW.  While it is too early to assess the impact of the Optional Ph.D. Program in Nanotechnology, the program undoubtedly addresses the needs for students who have desires to become nanotechnology professionals either in academia or in industry.  We believe that our graduates – the first generation of professional nanotechnologists – will further become nuclei for academia and industry efforts in the field.
