PNNL/UW Joint Institute for Nanoscience
Goals and Objectives
The goals and objectives of the Joint Institute for Nanoscience are to:
- strengthen existing collaborative research and development projects in Nanoscience at the University, PNNL, and any other mutually-agreed upon locations;
- coordinate educational and training opportunities in Nanoscience for University undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and others;
- assist in establishing faculty/staff development programs in Nanoscience at the University, PNNL, and any other mutually-agreed upon locations;
- assist in the development of multi-disciplinary programs in Nanoscience at the University, PNNL and any other mutually-agreed upon locations;
- coordinate short-course and conference offerings in Nanoscience;
- facilitate multi-institutional research efforts in Nanoscience, with special emphasis on partnerships among university, government, and industrial laboratories;
- establish a visiting scientist program that focuses initially on development of new instruments and techniques in Nanoscience, and subsequently on other areas of special interest;
- identify additional funding from public and private sector sources for the activities of the Joint Institute for Nanoscience; and
- make reasonable efforts to ensure the availability of facilities and equipment necessary to carry out the activities of the Joint Institute for Nanoscience activities.
